Apophenia

Oh my poor tile,u are just a little tile to this world and to me you are this whole big world of amazing patterns. Right there, in the center, I see a wicked witch with a giant ass holding a mysterious knife. Alas, the witch has suddenly become some Greek god with a clarinet !!! I see a chariot with roaring lions in you. I see a warrior on a horse dying in the battle. Why is it just me who sees all these? Why arent people around me noticing the world in you. Did the person who made you even think of all these while making you??
And yeah clouds, you are nothing less. Atleast tile was man made but you exist as such in nature. There is no cloud with no patterns. The deeper you look into it the more patterns you will find. and yeah, these patterns are so dynamic. They keep changing every single minute and sometimes within seconds. Oh well. Talked alot about patterns in things. Now lets move to patterns in life.
Are we living a patterned life,oh yes.may be.atleast mine has few patterns which never change. Be it the mindset or the routine we have certain patterns that never change. Those patterns remain constant with us. We eat food in more or less same intervals everyday. We sleep more or less in the same timings everyday. Our job routine remains the same everyday. Our thought process remains more or less the same everyday.
The more I study about patterns in people i realize better how flexible everything around humans is when compared to humans. People love sticking to just few patterns and living a constant life. They dont want to be a dog one day and horse the other day. They want to live every single day as a dog or horse whatever they choose.
Imagine how fun it would be if only we could be so unpredictable that we could choose anything we want to live, live it as happily as we were living that life for years. I see life as a drama where you are supposed to play infinte roles, not just few. High time people realize that and be more open. I mean to say we can be more random like a tile or the clouds which change patterns and say goodbye to monotonous life.
Lets talk about the patterns in thoughts now. We think we think different random thoughts everyday. But is that true? are our thoughts really random? dont they have any particular pattern among themseleves? I believe strongly that we think in a certain pattern. It was proven in the research too that we keep thinking the same thoughts again and again. We have a pattern in our reactions to certain actions. For example when i see good food i feel my mouth watering . also when i see curd i feel aversion and i have been feeling the same for many years. Also think about the qualities all your close friends possess. Am sure you will find many common traits among them. So there is definitely some pattern in our thoughts , feelings and interests.
I want to bring in the fancy topic, hacking here and relate it with patterns. I have attended some intro session on ethical hacking and there i heard the person say "hacking is all about identifying patterns in noise". And ya, its actually that. I believe every noise has a pattern, just the code for the pattern varies from noise to noise. Once you crack the code then you become the hero. Be it in hacking or in life.
After reading all this, I suggest you to think once about the patterns in everything starting with self. When you feel a need to change something identify the patterns involved in it, both external and internal, analyse those patterns and replace them with new ones. Anyways we now know that we cant escape the patterned life. Atleast we can try building more patterns and confuse those who try analyzing us !!! ;)

Is it better to walk or run in the rain??

Let’s assume you are stuck in the rain and want to get minimum wet then is it better run or walk or stand in the same place? Well let’s not fret about this question and do some math in arriving at the answer. Before we go ahead and solve this complex question let us make certain assumptions such as no friction and other wind constraints and also another assumption that the direction and speed of rain remain the same with space and time.

First let’s assume we are stuck in a meadow with no shelter nearby. Let’s represent the velocity of the rain as Vr. It has a vertical component (Vr2) pointing downwards and horizontal component (Vr1). The rain hits the person both from the top as well as sideways.

If the rain is unlikely to stop and we have no shelter nearby then it is of no use running because the rain striking from the top remains same. Also if the person moves sideways then there is a chance that the person will be hit by more rain drops than standing still. So it is considered to be of no use to run in rain if the person doesn’t have a shelter nearby.
It is very unlikely in today’s world that the person stands in a meadow with no shelter nearby, so let’s see what to do if we are stuck in the rain with a shelter nearby and the rain is unlikely to stop before reaching the shelter. It is of no use to stand in the rain when we can reach the nearby shelter in lesser time.
From the above two points it is observed that the wetness due to vertical component of rain depends only on the time for which the person stays in rain and the wetness due to horizontal component depends on the distance from the shelter.
Therefore it can be written as
Wetness(top) α Vr2 X time spent in the rain ---(1)
Also
Wetness(side) α Vr1X distance travelled ---(2)
Thus the total wetness α (Vr2 X time spent in the rain)+ (Vr1X distance travelled) ---(3)
We need to minimize the total wetness in order to arrive at the optimum speed.

The distance travelled remains constant as we ll be approaching the nearest shelter. Hence it is important to minimize the only variable which is the time spent in the rain. As the time spent in the rain is inversely proportional to the speed, it is suggested to increase the speed as much as possible to minimize the wetness. Hence it is suggested to run as quickly as possible if a shelter is found nearby !!!
